Thanks to your amazing campaigning on the Renters’ Rights Bill, landlords will no longer be able to demand multiple months' worth of rent up front!

From our regional campaign days to National Lobby Day, to the day-to-day work you put in emailing MPs, securing meetings, and doing 121s with us and our team at NUS, it is already reaping results. We are winning. And I am so proud of us.

We also won an amendment that stops students from being able to be locked into rental contracts more than 6 months in advance, easing pressure on students to find accommodation for next year when one has just started.

This is going to make a huge difference to so many people’s lives, especially for our international and lower-income students, who so often are forced to pay thousands of pounds right at the start of their studies.

But there’s still more for us to do...

We are campaigning for No More Guarantors, and our recently relaunched APPG gives us a huge opportunity to continue the work we started at our National Lobby Day.

Attend the APPG to discuss guarantors with MPs

Please come to the APPG for Students at 5pm on 29th January at Portcullis House (Westminster) where you will be able to talk directly to parliamentarians about how an amendment limiting the use of guarantors would benefit you and your students.

Confirm your attendance here

Once you’ve done that, use this easy tool to invite your MP to come too

Now that we have won an end to up-front rent, I know we can win an end to guarantor requirements!
