SU Awards 2025: A Celebration of Student Achievement
This year's SU Awards marked a new era in recognising student contributions across the RVC. With a new format designed to be more inclusive and accessible, the evening brought together sports clubs, societies and course representatives for the first time under one roof.
The 2025 ceremony, held earlier in the evening and with greater representation from all areas of student life, celebrated the people and initiatives that shaped the RVC's community over the previous year. Many nominations were submitted, praising those who go above and beyond to improve the student experience. The range of talent was truly inspiring, from academic support to creative showcases and incredible athletic performances.
Below are the winners and shortlisted entries for each of the ten categories:
1 - Course Rep Activity of the Year
Nominees:
1) Deacon's ICA Revision Session - Super engaging and gave students a great chance for peer and lecturer feedback—took real effort to organise and was hugely appreciated by the year.
2) Half-Way Dinner - Very well organised, with great class involvement in planning and fundraising. Careful consideration of costs and clear communication throughout.

2 - Society Activity of the Year
Nominees:
1) Cinderella Musical - This was a major collaborative event between PAS, Dance and Music, involving countless students who had the chance to express themselves creatively, showcase their talents and make new friends. It required extensive planning and was expertly coordinated across societies, SAWC and key resources (especially Brian).
2) Ice Skating Socities Galantines - This was our second year running the event and it’s quickly become a tradition. This time we made it even bigger with Dance, Music and PAS joining - complete with dressing up, chocolate-covered strawberries and plenty of cute photos.
3) The Art Showcase - A collaborative showcase by Dance, PAS, Music and K-Pop, featuring over three hours of performances - from spoken word to orchestral pieces and competitive dance. Organised entirely by student committees, it highlights the creativity, passion and community spirit of RVC’s arts societies and brings together students, families and the local community each year.
Winner: Cinderella Muscial by PAS, Music and Dance

3 - Sports Performance of the Year
Nominees:
1) RVC Rugby/Football - Joining forces to play a game against QMU which they also won. This showed Inter-connectedness between societies and also the benefits of teamwork and support.
2) Boat Club's Women Senior 4 - Boat Club’s Women’s Senior 4 overcame the odds, winning their category by over a minute despite a last-minute crew change and no prior training together - an impressive display of adaptability and performance.
3) Women's Hockey - After a two-hour away trip with just eight players, they secured a 3–0 win over Kent - Olivia Gooding scoring twice in a standout performance.

4 - Fundraising Event of the Year
Nominees:
1) Boat Club's 100km Row - After five months of planning, Boat Club rowed 100km from Chiswick to Eton and back in 18 hours—some rowing up to 66km each. The team raised over £600 for Mind and the club, with huge support from across the RVC community.
2) Rugby Movember - Rugby’s Movember campaign stood out this year with successful bake sales on both campuses, calendar shoots and strong student engagement -all raising awareness and funds for men’s health.
3) 12 Hour Hockey - Laura led a 12-hour hockey match, raising over £2,000 through donations and sponsorships - an impressive display of commitment and drive.

5 - Course Rep Extra Mile Award
Nominees:
1) Anna Cormack - Anna has shown outstanding leadership as course rep - keeping everyone informed with clear, timely updates and making sure every student feels heard. Her commitment and support have made a real difference to the year group.
2) Deacon Lajala - Deacon has gone above and beyond as Year 1 rep - quick to act on feedback, raising concerns when needed, and even organising cohort-wide study sessions for the first time. His commitment to supporting others has made a real impact.
3) Alex Grannel - Alex has gone above and beyond for postgraduate research students - building a sense of community through weekly coffee mornings and creative socials, while consistently advocating for student needs. His approachable and proactive nature has made a real difference.
Winner: Alex Grannel
6 - Sportsperson of the Year
1) James Shieber - James has led Men’s Hockey with skill and integrity - driving the team to BUCS victory while setting an example on and off the pitch. His leadership, consistency and support for others have made a lasting impact.
2) Camille Riberio - Camille has been a core part of RVC Dance for three years - choreographing award-winning routines, teaching a range of styles and supporting dancers of all levels. Her commitment, talent and encouragement have left a lasting mark on the club.
3) Evie Lloyd-Tunstall - Evie has shown outstanding commitment across multiple clubs - representing England Universities, becoming BUCS top goal-scorer and still supporting teams while injured. Her dedication, positivity and sportsmanship make her a true role model.

7 - Society Impact Award
1) Priya Toor - Priya has transformed her mountaineering club into an inclusive, sustainable and inspiring community. From beginner hikes and skills workshops to environmental initiatives and fundraising efforts, her leadership has made the outdoors more accessible and welcoming for all.
2) Mary Wagner - Mary has been a dedicated and talented member of PAS for four years - taking on major roles in multiple productions, directing pantomimes and leading as both Tour and Social Secretary. Her creativity, commitment and energy have made a lasting impact on the society.
3) Mary Hirst - Mary has been a driving force in PAS and Music Society for seven years - directing musicals, leading committees and introducing live orchestras to productions. Her leadership, warmth and dedication have transformed the society into a more inclusive and collaborative space.
Winner: Mary/Priya
8 - Sports Club of the Year
1) Netball - RVC Netball has had an exceptional year - achieving competitive success, expanding to a fourth team and fostering a supportive, inclusive environment. Their commitment to development, teamwork and community engagement makes them a standout club at RVC.
2) Hockey - RVC Hockey has had an outstanding year across all teams - winning both men’s and women’s BUCS trophies, securing league placements and raising over £1,000 for StreetVet. With national-level players and growing integration, they continue to lead in performance and community impact.
3) Dance - RVC Dance is a supportive and inclusive club, welcoming all abilities and offering a wide range of student-led classes. This year, the competition team placed in multiple national events, winning numerous trophies across styles - an impressive achievement alongside demanding studies.
Winner: Hockey
9 - Society of the Year
1) Mountaineering - RVC Mountaineering offers inclusive, adventurous trips throughout the year - ranging from climbing and hiking to caving. With a focus on safety, community and mental wellbeing, the club welcomes all experience levels and continues to grow through outreach and alumni support.
2) PAS - PAS has had a packed year - producing multiple shows including Cinderella and Pride & Prejudice, collaborating across societies in the Arts Showcase, and running socials and tours. Their commitment to creativity, inclusivity and inter-society teamwork sets them apart.
3) SEVA - SEVA stands out for its engaging academic talks and unique equine hospital rounds - offering students valuable hands-on insight and consistently encouraging involvement in the equine side of RVC life.
Winner: Mountaineering
10) Course Rep of the Year
1) Anna Cormack - Anna has shown outstanding commitment as Year 5 rep - keeping everyone informed, promptly answering questions and ensuring the year group feels heard and supported. Her clear communication and dedication have made a real difference.
2) Alex Grannell - Alex has gone above and beyond for postgraduate researchers - building community through weekly coffee mornings and socials, while consistently advocating for student wellbeing. His approachable, proactive attitude has made a lasting impact at Hawkshead.
3) Deacon Lajala - Deacon has been a standout rep for BVetMed 1 - organising revision sessions, addressing student concerns quickly and creating opportunities for feedback. His efforts have been widely recognised and appreciated across the year.

This year's SU Awards truly demonstrated the talent, dedication and spirit that make the RVC so unique. We are extremely proud of all of our nominees and winners, and we are already looking forward to returning next year - even bigger and better!
