Interested in Exotics? Love to give back to wildlife and want to be involved with conservation? Want experience handling animals outside of coursework? RVC Zoological Society (affectionately ZooSoc) is the society for you!
As one of RVC’s largest societies and the reigning SU Society of The Year 2020-21, we’re here to offer RVCs students an experience in the exotics field to supplement their interests and show off the wild side of the veterinary world.
Throughout the year, we will be hosting events and fundraisers with the goal of raising money to donate to this year's chosen charities: the WWF-UK, the Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust and VetLife. Please check out their websites if you're interested in learning more!
Among some of our most loved events include: falconry live practical, exotic clinical rounds at the Beaumont Animal Hospital, Macaw free flight demonstrations, trips to the zoo, Valentine’s day candygrams (indulging your inner Mean Girls fan and raising money for the Rainforest Trust UK all in one event) and our fundraisers for the Australian Bushfires in 2020 – where we all rallied together and raised £800 for WWF!
And what’s more – we’ve got loads of free online learning opportunities and we organise talks on everything from raptor rehabilitation to tropical fish medicine with experts in their fields. Make sure to check out our Facebook & Instagram pages for 'upcoming events' to keep up to date with what we're planning monthly.
What we're working on *hopefully* adding this year:
If you’d like to join and are interested in wildlife, exotics, and learning – you can always find us online: @rvczoologicalsociety on Instagram and RVC Zoological Society on Facebook. Or, of course, drop us an email at zoosoc@rvc.ac.uk (we promise, we’re friendly)!
